We are working to update this page with current information and registration forms. We appreciate your patience and excitement about the 2021 Chautauqua Festival!

 

  • Please click the associated links for rules and registration information. 

  • Registration information for daily workshops will be posted soon.

  • Fees, if required, are paid at registration. The following week, during the Festival, registrations will be taken at the Chautauqua office located in the gazebo near the park entrance.

  • Register early since many of the events fill up fast. 

 

Art/Photography show - Virtual Event

Submit and view entries to the 2021 Chautauqua Art and Photography show, which will be virtual this year. All entries must be submitted by July 17th and awards will be announced after August 1st. You can find links to our "how to upload your submissions" video as well as the event page below!

Bazaar - July 31 & August 1, 2021

Registration form for vendors can be found here. 

Bazaar located on the upper level of the rec center across from the courthouse, near Elizabeth Brown Memorial Park. 

Saturday, July 31 the doors will be open from 10 am until 7 pm. 

Sunday, August 1, the doors will be open from 12 pm until 6 pm.

 

Join us for the Chautauqua Bazaar! Up to 60 vendors including jewelry, local authors, handsewn items, painted crafts and so much more.

Creative Writing Contest - Virtual event

The Chautauqua Festival Creative Writing Contest 2021 is currently accepting entries! Although our ceremony will not happen this year, organizers hope to return to normal for Chautauqua 2022. Please submit entries by Thursday, July 29, 2021.

Thursday, July 28th 2021: Laura Abbey

Laura Abbey is an Appalachia native. Her ceramic training began in New Jersey under the instruction of Ann Tsubuko. She spent time with the Peace Corps bringing economic development techniques to communities in Namibia. As a new resident of Wytheville, she wishes to share her knowledge of ceramics, and her passion for fostering community growth with her home region. 

Ms. Abbey works with several clay materials (raku, stoneware, and porcelain) doing low and medium fire reduction in her Wytheville studio (Laurel Creek Pottery) on 420 East Main Street. She takes particular interest in investigating surface glaze possibilities, often using traditional functional vessel forms for inventive and unexpected treatment and motifs. 

The Laurel Creek Pottery Gift Shop features handmade gifts by local artists and monthly workshops for all ages and abilities. Open studio time is available for those interested. 

 

Friday, July 30th 2021: John Johnson

Will be signing his recently published book, A Death Mob Gathered. He is a local historian and author, is well known for his interest in the Civil War and he has written several articles about that era as well as books of that time period: The Lead, Salt, & The Railroad, July 18, 1863, Toland's Raid on Wytheville, and Wythe County, Virginia, During the War Between the State, 1861 – 1865.

Saturday, July 31: Robby Suthers

Robby is a local abstract painter. He approaches his work with childlike wonder. He works with primarily with oil and acrylic paints. His mantra is, “if you investigate enough, everything becomes abstract.” To approach life artfully is the goal from where I’m standing. I would have it no other way."

Sunday, August 1: Andrea Poole

Andrea is a local art teacher at Rural Retreat Elementary School. She has her degree in Fine Arts and Education from Radford University. She is also an instructor at Rose Cottage School of Art. Andrea primarily works in oils. But, she also loves to draw and create beautiful mixed media projects of all kinds, two dimensional and three dimensional.
